High-precision CNC turning with a counter-spindle and two tool turrets for maximum efficiency

Modern CNC turning has advanced significantly in recent years and now enables the much more efficient and cost-effective production of precision components. Modern CNC lathes are often equipped with a main spindle, a counter spindle, and two active tool turrets. This machine configuration allows multiple machining steps to be performed simultaneously, thereby significantly reducing production times.

A key advantage is parallel machining. While one tool turret is working on the main spindle, the second turret can simultaneously perform additional machining operations, such as drilling, turning, or thread cutting. The counter spindle takes over the workpiece for machining the rear side. This eliminates the need to change the workpiece’s clamping, which saves additional time and improves dimensional accuracy at the same time.

These simultaneous machining processes can reduce machining time by up to 50%. Operations that used to be performed sequentially are now carried out in parallel. This not only boosts productivity but also improves manufacturing efficiency.

Another key aspect of modern CNC manufacturing is automated continuous operation. Many CNC lathes are equipped with bar feeders, workpiece grippers, and automatic part unloaders. This allows them to run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (24/7), often largely unmanned. The operating personnel primarily handle tasks such as machine setup, tool monitoring, quality control, and maintenance work.

In summary, modern CNC lathes enable highly productive, precise, and cost-effective manufacturing thanks to their technical capabilities, automation, and the ability to perform simultaneous machining. As a result, they meet the high demands of today’s industrial production.

At SFS-Fluid Systeme GmbH, we too have relied on these technologies for many years to offer our customers products that are optimal in terms of price, performance, and quality.
